What Is a VI Peel® ?

VI Peel is a medium-depth, medical-grade chemical peel that uses a blend of trichloroacetic acid (TCA), retinoic acid, salicylic acid, phenol, and vitamin C to gently resurface the skin. It’s designed to:

  • Soften the look of fine lines and early wrinkles
  • Visibly improve sun damage and uneven tone
  • Help clear active acne and post-acne marks
  • Refine texture, pores, and overall clarity

Most patients experience a controlled peel over several days, followed by smoother, brighter, more even-looking skin.

Who Is VI Peel Best For?

VI Peel is ideal for patients who want a more noticeable change than a light peel or facial, and who can plan around several days (7) of visible peeling.

VI Peel is best for:

  • Uneven tone, sun spots, and general sun damage
  • Melasma and hormonally-driven pigment, as part of a broader regimen
  • Active acne and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)

What To Expect

Everything You Need To Know About a VI Peel®

Before Your Treatment

  • Avoid other exfoliating products (strong acids, scrubs, retinoids) for several days before treatment, as directed by Dr. Kleydman.
  • Do not use tanning beds or self-tanner on the treatment area leading up to your peel.
  • Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin on the areas being treated.
  • Let us know about any recent procedures (lasers, microneedling, waxing), new medications, or health changes so we can choose the safest approach.

During Your Treatment
  • Your skin will be cleansed and prepped in-office.
  • VI Peel solution is applied in several passes; you may feel warmth, tingling, or stinging, which typically subsides within minutes.
  • You’ll leave the office with a thin layer of peel solution on your skin and a take-home aftercare kit with cleanser, towelettes, and post-peel products.
  • You’ll receive specific instructions on when to wash, how to layer your aftercare products, and what to expect each day.

Most appointments take about 20–30 minutes, start to finish.

What Else To Know

After Your Treatment

  • Day 1–2: skin may feel tight, dry, or slightly darker/bronzed.
  • Day 3–5: visible peeling typically begins, often around the mouth and cheeks first; flaking can be light and “dusty” or more sheet-like.
  • Day 5–7: peeling gradually subsides, and fresh skin is revealed underneath.

Throughout this time:

  • Do not pick, peel, or scrub at flaking skin.
  • Follow your aftercare kit schedule exactly as directed.
  • Avoid heavy workouts, saunas, steam rooms, and hot yoga during the most active peeling days if skin feels sensitive.
  • Use gentle cleanser, bland moisturizer, and broad-spectrum SPF every day.

We’ll let you know when you can safely resume your usual actives (like retinoids) and other procedures.

Treatment Details

  • Treatment Areas: Face, neck, and sometimes chest or other localized areas (when appropriate)
  • Session Length: 20–30 minutes
  • Peeling Time: Typically 3–7 days of visible peeling/flaking, with dryness and tightness beforehand
  • Results: Brighter, more even skin tone; improved clarity; smoother texture once peeling completes
  • Sessions Recommended: Mild concerns- 1 treatment

Pigment, acne, or more advanced changes: a series of 3+ peels, spaced about 4–6 weeks apart, with maintenance as needed
