What does Microneedling help with?
Microneedling may be recommended when skin feels rough, dull, uneven, or less smooth than it used to. Microneedling creates controlled microchannels that trigger the skin’s natural repair process, helping stimulate fibroblasts to support collagen, elastin, smoother texture, refined pores, and softened early acne scars over time.
What SkinPen does beneath the surface
It may help improve the appearance of:
- Uneven texture
- Enlarged pores
- Early acne scars
- Mild surgical scars
- Fine lines
- Dull or tired-looking skin
- Crepey texture
- Mild laxity
- Stretch marks in select cases
- Post-acne marks as part of a broader skin plan
Your Microneedling Options
Standard Microneedling
Standard microneedling uses the SkinPen device to create controlled microchannels in the skin. This helps trigger your body’s natural repair process and supports collagen and elastin production over time.
It is often recommended for patients who want to improve texture, pores, dullness, fine lines, and overall skin quality with minimal downtime.
Microneedling with PRP
Microneedling with PRP adds platelet-rich plasma from your own blood to the treatment.
PRP contains growth factors that may help support healing, glow, collagen stimulation, and skin quality. PRP may be especially helpful when treating acne scars, under-eye texture, crepey skin, or patients who want a more regenerative approach to microneedling.
Common Treatment Areas:
Face
The most common treatment area for texture, pores, acne scars, fine lines, and overall skin quality.
Neck
Microneedling may help support smoother texture and early crepiness on the neck when appropriate.
Décolleté
For patients noticing crepey texture, dullness, or mild sun-related texture changes on the chest.
Scars
SkinPen may be used for early acne scars or select mild surgical scars. Deeper scars may require a combination approach with PRP, RF microneedling, CO2 laser, or other treatments.
Stretch marks
Microneedling may be used in select cases to support collagen remodeling and improve the look of stretch marks over a series of treatments.
What to Expect
Can Microneedling be done same day?
Microneedling can be performed the same day as your consultation if your skin is an appropriate candidate .
Dr. Kleydman will first assess your skin, active breakouts, recent sun exposure, skin sensitivity, medical history, and treatment goals before deciding whether same-day treatment is appropriate.
One week before treatment
Avoid tanning, self-tanner, and unnecessary sun exposure before your appointment.
Pause retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs, or other active skincare products for several days before treatment depending on your skin.
Let our team know if you have active breakouts, a history of cold sores, recent cosmetic treatments, new medications, blood thinners, or a tendency toward keloids or abnormal scarring.
If you are scheduling microneedling before an event, plan ahead. Redness, tightness, flaking, or roughness can occur as the skin heals.
During Your Appointment
During treatment
Your skin will be cleansed and a topical numbing cream will be applied for comfort.
The SkinPen device is passed across the skin in controlled sections. You may feel vibration, light scratching, pressure, or warmth depending on the area being treated.
Treatment depth is customized based on your concern. Lighter settings may be used for tone, glow, and maintenance, while deeper settings may be used for scars or more noticeable texture.
If PRP is included, a small blood draw is performed and the PRP is prepared during your visit. PRP may be applied over the skin and/or strategically used in targeted areas depending on your treatment plan.
Most microneedling appointments take approximately 45–60 minutes, including numbing time.
After treatment
Redness, warmth, tightness, and sensitivity are common for 1–3 days and may feel similar to a mild sunburn.
Some patients experience light flaking, dryness, or roughness as the skin renews. A calming mask or soothing post-treatment care may be used immediately after treatment to support comfort.
Avoid makeup for 24 hours or until the skin has calmed. Avoid intense workouts, hot yoga, saunas, steam, exfoliants, retinoids, and harsh active products until cleared by our team.
Use gentle, hydrating skincare and daily broad-spectrum SPF. Collagen remodeling continues over time, so results typically build gradually over the weeks.
