What Is a Salicylic Acid Chemical Peel?

A salicylic acid chemical peel is an exfoliating treatment that uses salicylic acid (a beta-hydroxy acid/BHA) to help clear congestion in the skin. Because salicylic acid is oil-soluble, it can penetrate into pores more effectively than many other acids—helping dissolve built-up oil and debris that contribute to blackheads, whiteheads, and breakouts, while also smoothing rough texture and refining the look of pores. The peel is applied in a controlled way in-office, then removed/neutralized as appropriate, leaving skin feeling cleaner, calmer, and more even over the days that follow (with minimal downtime for most patients).

Best For:

Oily or combination skin
Persistent congestion (especially around the nose, chin, and jawline)
Patients who break out around cycles, stress, or travel.
Patients who want clearer skin without strong irritation from at-home acids

Not always ideal for:
Very dry, reactive, or severely compromised barrier skin (we may recommend a gentler peel or barrier-first plan). If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, we’ll discuss what’s appropriate.

What To Expect

During Your Visit

Your skin is cleaned and prepped
Salicylic acid is applied in controlled layers
You may feel a warmth, tingling, or mild stinging for a few minutes

Most appointments take 30-40 minutes

After The Peel

Skin may feel tight or dry for 1-2 days
Mild flaking may occur around days 2-4 (not everyone peels visibly)
Use a gentle cleanser, moisturise, and SPF
Avoid retinoids, exfoliating acids, and scrubs for 5-7 days (or as directed)
