Glycolic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) that exfoliates by loosening the bonds that hold dull, dead surface cells in place. In an in-office chemical peel, it’s applied in carefully controlled layers to encourage fresh cell turnover— so skin gradually looks brighter, smoother, and more even in tone. Thanks to its small molecular size, glycolic acid penetrates effectively, making it a strong option for concerns like dullness, rough texture, mild discoloration, and early fine lines. When performed under dermatologist guidance, most patients experience little to minimal downtime.

Who is Glycolic Acid Chemical Peel best for?

Glycolic peels are best for patients who want a controlled, in-office exfoliation to improve brightness, smoothness, and clarity, especially when skincare alone isn’t getting them there.

Best for:

Normal, combination, or mildly oily skin
Dull, uneven tone or rough texture
Early fine lines and mild sun damage
Patients building a routine of regular exfoliation in a supervised way
Those who want minimal downtime but visible refinement over time

Not always ideal for:
Very inflamed, actively irritated, or severely sensitive skin (we may recommend a gentler peel or barrier-first plan). If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, we’ll discuss what’s appropriate.

What To Expect

During Your Treatment

Skin is cleansed and prepped
Glycolic acid is applied in controlled layers
You may feel tingling or mild stinging for a few minutes
The peel is neutralized/removed, and calming skincare is applied

Most appointments take 20–30 minutes.

After The Peel

Mild tightness or dryness for 1–2 days
Light flaking may appear around days 2–4 (not everyone peels visibly)
Use gentle cleanser, moisturizer and SPF
Avoid retinoids, exfoliating acids, and scrubs for 5–7 days (or as directed)

Usually minimal. Many patients return to daily life the same day.
