Earlobe repair is a type of surgical procedure that works to correct the earlobe on patients. Patients may need to have just one or both earlobes repaired. Typically, earlobes need to be surgically repaired when they have been stretched or torn due to ear piercings and gauging of the ear itself. In fact, wearing earrings that are too heavy for the ear can cause the piercing hole to stretch out and the earlobe to rip.

Repair is typically done through small flaps that are cut to help reshape the earlobe itself and provide you with a new look. If you would like to talk about your options, call us today.

What to Expect at the Procedure

When you come into our office, you will have a consultation with Dr. Kleydman who will confirm that you are a good candidate to have the procedure done. During earlobe repair in Brooklyn, the pieces of the earlobe that are damaged will be cut into a zig zag pattern that allows them to be closed together and stitched. This pattern is perfect for earlobes that are stretched out because it prevents the earlobes from splitting in the exact same spot again. You may receive additional dressing on the ears to prevent bleeding and to keep them free from infection.

Dr. Kleydman will direct you on how to care for your ears and let you know if you need to come back into the office to have the stitches removed.

The procedure does not take too long to perform and should not cause you too much pain, however, the site after the procedure can be tender and may cause some discomfort for a day or two. It is important that you clean the ears properly and apply any medication provided to you.

There is typically no serious downtime needed once the procedure is done and you can return to your activities as normal. You should keep an eye on the incisions to make sure they do not become infected. If you have any concerns about the healing process, you should call our office immediately.

Earlobes can begin to sag over time as the skin loses elasticity, resulting in long, thin and sometimes wrinkled lobes. To remedy this, earlobe rejuvenation is a cosmetic procedure that can remove some excess skin and tissue and reshape the earlobe into a smaller, more rounded look and eliminate this tell-tale sign of aging. An earlobe repair may be performed in the case of  traumatic injury or extensive tearing to the ear caused by piercings.
