What is Restylane Refyne?

Restylane Refyne is a hyaluronic acid filler from the Restylane family of products. FDA-approved in December 2016 and released in 2017, it is FDA-approved for the correction of deeper wrinkles of the face such as nasolabial folds (smile lines).

What makes Restylane Refyne different from other hyaluronic acid fillers?

Restylane Refyne is a smooth gel that provides good improvement of mild to moderate facial wrinkles. It is similar to Restylane Defyne, but is a “lighter” product used for filling shallower facial wrinkles than Defyne. Because of how the hyaluronic acid strands within Restylane Refyne are bonded together, the gel is smooth and integrates well into the area of injection. Also due to its filler structure, Restylane Refyne may provide a longer duration and allow less swelling than some previous fillers used for wrinkle reduction.

Where can Restylane Refyne be used?

Dr. Kleydman  uses it to provide soft filling in areas that need subtle enhancement. Although FDA-approved for deep wrinkles of the face such as nasolabial folds, there are many uses of the filler beyond smile lines. Depending on individual patient characteristics, Dr. Kleydman  may utilize Restylane Refyne in areas such as the tear troughs (under eye circles), forehead, brow, cheeks, smile lines, marionette lines, or lips.

Does Restylane Refyne look natural in the face?

Yes. Restylane Refyne integrates into the area of placement extremely well, lending this filler to a very natural result in expert hands. Dr. Kleydman tailors filler placement and selection to individual patient needs, always striving for correction of aging changes, enhancement of beautiful features of the face, and restoration of facial balance.

Can Restylane Refyne be combined with other fillers or procedures?

Yes, Restylane Refyne is often used by Dr. Kleydman in conjunction with other fillers, skin tightening procedures, or light and laser based technologies to create a more enhanced outcome. Restylane Refyne may be used with other fillers to balance the face and restore lost volume, a process called a “liquid face lift.” Dermal fillers such as Restylane Refyne are well paired with neuromodulators such as Botox or Dysport, in order to relax overactive facial muscles and smooth wrinkles related to exuberant facial expression.

How much downtime is there following Restylane Refyne treatment?

There is typically mild to minimal swelling following Restylane Refyne treatment.   While individual results may vary, most patients experience minimal to mild swelling for a day or two. Most patients can resume daily social activities the same day. As with any injectable dermal filler, there is a chance of bruise.

What are the possible side effects of Restylane Refyne?

The side effects of Restylane Refyne are similar to any other FDA-approved injectable hyaluronic acid filler product. More common and mild side effects following Restylane Refyne include pain during injection, swelling at the site of placement, or a bruise.   Extremely rare reactions include allergic reaction to the filler, infection, compression of a nearby vessel causing skin changes, visual disturbances, or stroke. These are very uncommon and should prompt a patient to call the treating physician immediately.
